Look at the photo above and try to figure out which person is Kansas City Royals pitcher Johnny Cueto.
It’s tough, isn’t it? Now imagine being a reporter looking for an interview with Cueto when both Johnny and his brother, Danillo, are in the same room. That’s rough.
On Wednesday night, Johnny Beisbol threw an absolute gem against the New York Mets in Game 2 of the 2015 World Series. He allowed one run on two hits—both to Mets first baseman Lucas Duda—over nine innings, leading Kansas City to a 7-1 victory. Most importantly, that dominant performance gave his team a 2-0 series lead.
Obviously Johnny was who reporters wanted to talk to after the game. Well, according to Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com, one reporter had a tough time telling Johnny apart from Danillo:
Given the uncanny resemblance, we may have to give the reporter a pass. It can be tough to tell the two apart—even for someone who spent seven-plus seasons watching Cueto pitch for the Cincinnati Reds.
Per Castrovince, Danillo says he frequently is mistaken for his brother:
The freaky thing is there is a third Cueto brother who also bears a striking resemblance to Johnny:
When those three are in the clubhouse together, good luck to reporters. Their best bet would be to hope Johnny stays in full uniform for the postgame media session.
