MLB Trade Rumors: Six Ways the Yankees Can Resurrect Its Staff

With less than a week to go before the 2010 trade deadline, the baseball
rumor-mill is heating up.

Teams such as the Houston Astros and Cleveland Indians will look to become sellers, as they begin to build towards their future.

While other teams such as the Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox will become buyers, with hopes of trading for a player that turns them into a World Series champion come October.

For most of the teams in the majors, their seasons have already been decided, but for the New York Yankees, their season is just “beginning.”

Over the past couple of weeks, the Yankees rotation has taken multiple hits. From Hughes’ recent struggles, to Pettitte’s groin injury, and Burnett’s inconsistencies, the Yankees are a team that appear to be in desperate need for a stable and reliable arm in the middle or back end of the rotation.

As you proceed to read, ” MLB Trade Rumors: Six Ways the Yankees Can Resurrect its Staff”, I indicate which pitcher I find most available, realistic, and affordable for the Yankees to acquire before the trade deadline.

We’ll find out soon enough if I’m right, but in the meantime, sit back, relax and enjoy.

Let’s play ball.

MLB Trade Rumors: 10 Deadline Deals “The Boss” Would Have Made

From the off-season acquisition of Paul O’Neil in 1992, to the blockbuster trade that brought Alex Rodriguez from the Texas Rangers to the Bronx, George Steinbrenner has made a handful of pivotal trades during his time as New York Yankees owner.

Some of his deals were done during the offseason, while others (David Cone in 1995) were done prior to the trade deadline.

I’ve been fortunate to be a Yankee fan my entire life, but until George Steinbrenner passed away, I never realized how lucky I was to have “The Boss” as an owner.

While his bank account certainly helped turn the Yankees into an empire that was anything, but evil, his desire and will to win as an owner was unprecedented in the game of baseball.

He always got the player he coveted, and always delivered the knockout punch.

With the trade deadline rapidly approaching, the time has come to honor Steinbrenner one more time, as I present “MLB Trade Rumors: 10 Deadline Deals “The Boss” Would Have Made Around the League.”

Pretending that all teams in 2010 had their own “Boss,” these are 10 trades Steinbrenner would have demanded be done around the league before the trade deadline passed.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy.

As we say goodbye for the final time to the man who changed baseball forever – “The Boss.”

2010 Home Run Derby: The Event’s 10 Greatest Performances of All-Time

25 years ago, Dave Parker was the first Home Run Derby champion, belting six home runs to defeat a field that included Jim Rice and future Hall of Famers Eddie Murray, Carlton Fisk, Cal Ripken Jr., and Ryne Sandberg at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

Since 1985, the Home Run Derby has provided some of the greatest moments in baseball history. If I write about all of them now, you will not have anything to read about.

Everyone has their favorite moment or at least their favorite home run derby duel.

Since the installment of the derby, some derbies have provided unforgettable drama, while other derby performances have been nothing but boring, lacking the excitement fans want.

However, the performances that you are about to read about, have been deemed the 10 greatest performances of all time.

But before I begin, who does everyone like this year to take home the title in Anaheim next week?

Call me biased, but I’m selecting Robinson Cano to win the 2010 Home Run Derby.

That’s right. Go Yanks.

MLB Trade Deadline: The 10 Biggest Pennant-Changing Deals of the 2000s

The trade deadline can be a defining moment during the season.

The trade deadline allows teams that buy to transform themselves from a contender into World Series champions, while the teams that sell start to look towards the future.

Not every deal that has been made in recent memory has worked out (see July 31, 2004: Mets trade Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano), but there are plenty of other deals that have.

As we wait anxiously for the 2010 trade deadline, hoping our favorite team adds that special player who will make the difference, in the meantime, sit back, relax and enjoy.

As I present ” MLB Trade Deadline: The 10 Biggest Pennant-Changing Deals of the 2000s.”

These are the ten best deadline deals made by a contender in the last decade, that have paid major dividends for that team.

No Free Passes: The 10 Best Control Pitchers in MLB

Unless you have been living in a “baseball bubble,” you must be aware that Ubaldo Jimenez is having an incredible season. In 14 games pitched, he’s 13-1 with a 1.15 ER. This puts him on pace to win 30-plus games this season.

But no matter what his record is, or how dominant he’s been thus far, he has not done enough in his career to prove that he’s trustworthy in a big game.

In his previous two seasons, he’s combined to go 27-24, while giving up roughly three and a half runs per game. Not to mention his postseason performances, where he’s been dreadful, and has yet to win a postseason game.

By no means am I discrediting Jimenez’s 2010 season, but get back to me in October.

If he continues this pace, then my opinion will change. Until then, he’s just another pitcher off to a remarkable start.

Let’s see how the rest of his season turns out, but in the meantime, I present “No Free Passes: The 10 Best Control Pitchers in MLB.”

These are baseball’s best pitchers, who I would trust most with a full count and the bases loaded to throw that crucial strike.

Is your most “trustworthy” pitcher on here?

The Best of the Best: Yankees Mount Rushmore

In honor of the year Robinson Cano is having (.368 Batting Average, 13 Home Runs, 47 RBI), it got me thinking that if Cano keeps this pace up, where will it rank amongst the greatest Yankee seasons of all-time?

We still got a long ways to go, and there’s still a lot of baseball to be played, so I will re-address that question towards the end of the season.

But for now, the important question that I was pondering about was related to Mount Rushmore.

Don’t worry – I am not giving a history lesson about the four presidents who’s faces are on the mount, but rather, I found myself asking the question, if were carving a Yankees Mount Rushmore which four Yankee legends would get the nod?

Would it be the Babe or the Mick? Lou Gehrig or Joe DiMaggio? Mariano Rivera or Don Larsen? Jorge Posada or Yogi Berra? How about the Boss?

The list can go on and on, and narrowing it down to a final four was not an easy task.

However, after deciphering long and hard about whom to chose, my mission was accomplished.

You might agree with me, but in all likelihood, there will be a player you felt I left out, that deserved to be here.

Feel free to give your opinion.

Let the adventure of climbing “Yankees Mount Rushmore” begin.

MLB’s 20 Ghosts of Twitter Past: What the Game’s Greats Would Have Said

In today’s day and age, Twitter has allowed baseball fans all across the country and all over the world to follow their favorite Major Leaguer every step of the way.

The legends of the game never had this opportunity to be followed by thousands of their die-hard fans, leaving only our imaginations to decipher what the game’s greats would have tweeted after a monumental moment in their baseball careers had taken place.

Can you imagine what Babe Ruth’s reaction would’ve been after being sold to the New York Yankees in 1920? Or what Mickey Mantle would have written during the summer of 1961?

I certainly can.

Therefore, let me present “MLB’s 20 Ghosts of Twitter Past: What the Game’s Greats Would Have Said…”

Please sit back, relax, and enjoy.

And in the words of the late Jack Buck, “Go crazy, folks! Go crazy!”

Major League Baseball: Wild, Wild, West

Welcome to an up close and personal, first look at the movie “Major League Baseball: Wild, Wild, West”, starring umpire Joe West.

First released in Boston, Massachusetts back in April, the movie has since premiered in Chicago, and has finally been released nationwide.

Since the release, MLB fans have recognized it’s time to send West packing into the sunset, and for him to leave the game of baseball.

By no means, would this be a picture perfect ending to a long and controversial career, but this goodbye would be well deserved.

The stage-hogging ump has proven to us all, he only cares about himself, and what is best for Joe West – that is all that matters.

Commissioner Bud Selig would never ban West from baseball, so we’re stuck watching him until he voluntarily retires from umpiring.

So if you haven’t done so already, get used to seeing West’s name is the news.

And trust me, it will not be worth listening too.

Please, turn off all cell phones (just kidding), and no talking during the movie (just kidding again).

The movie is about to begin.

It’s Showtime.
