MLB Trade Rumors: What Cliff Lee Will Mean for the Yankees

Cliff Lee, the ace who recently led the Texas Rangers to the World Series, is once again a free agent and the biggest dog on the block is looking to get him.  The Yankees are after Lee because of his success and his ability to lead teams to great runs in the playoffs.

By adding Lee to their roster, they will gain a great asset and have one of the best lineups in baseball from a pitching standpoint.

Having a one-two punch of Lee and Sabathia would mean great things for the Yankees and, once again, allow them to become World Series Champions.

If the Yankees know what is right for them, they will pursue Lee with a vengeance, or else he could end up somewhere they would have to face him, such as Boston.

If the Yankees are able to land Lee and sign him to a multiyear deal, it will be a great moment for their franchise and would almost guarantee a trip to the World Series.  Sometimes money can’t buy a World Series, but in this case it can.

Having Lee and Sabathia as the first two guys on your rotation would be devastating to any team in baseball and cause everyone—who is not a Yankees fan—to cringe.

Lee has had great numbers over his career, with a record of 102-61 and an ERA of 3.85.

If Lee agrees to go to the Yankees, it would be a win-win situation for him. His wallet would get fatter, and his chances of winning a ring would greatly increase.

Cliff Lee: Is It Good for Baseball If He Goes To the New York Yankees?

It was reported today that the Yankees are meeting with free agent ace pitcher Cliff Lee.  This is a major development in what is the biggest free agent of the offseason.

Whichever team is successful in acquiring this ace will be very fortunate and it will definitely hurt their pocket book, but that is no problem for the Yankees.

Lee, the 32 year old pitcher out of Arkansas, has been on a roller coaster the past few years traveling from team to team.  In the past few years, he has been with Philadelphia, Seattle and Texas.  Over his career, he has had 102 wins with 61 losses and an ERA of 3.85.

The Yankees are just trying to add to their already stacked pitching line-up with the addition of what would be Lee to their starting rotation.

If the Yankees were to land him, they would have one of the top one-two punches in baseball with Cliff Lee and CC Sebathia.

Although the acquisition would be great for the Yankees, it would hurt baseball in general.

The Rangers would pretty much be left without an ace.  Having a loaded Yankees team would hurt the game and bring less attention to the smaller markets that have driven baseball over the last season.

If the Yankees were to win this big time acquisition, it would just hurt the game and be bad for baseball, although it wouldn’t hurt the game that much, it would still leave a sting on the small markets such as the ones in Texas.

If Lee signs with the Yankees, they will be everyone’s favorites for the 2011 World Series, but we all know, money doesn’t buy championships.

Cliff Lee Deserves a World Series with Texas Rangers, But Will He Get One?

Texas Rangers’ ace Cliff Lee has had a dominant career and deserves a World Series title.  He has pitched great this season, with a 12-9 record and a 3.18 ERA.

Lee barely missed a World Series title last season with Philadelphia, and was traded in the offseason to Seattle.  Earlier this year, he was traded to the Rangers to help them win a title.

Today, Lee had quite a dominating performance in Texas’ 5-1 win, pitching seven innings while only allowing five hits and one run.  Lee has been so close to winning a title, but he must get through the Rays first.

With the Rangers lineup. they have the opportunity to go deep into the playoffs, but will they?  First they have to get through Tampa Bay.

The Rays’ pitching has been pretty stellar throughout the year.  They are ranked third in quality starts by pitchers with 95, and they are ranked eighth in ERA at 3.78. For the Rangers to defeat them, they must be able to get hits.

This series should be a great matchup because the Rangers are one of the best hitting teams in the league.  They are the best team in baseball in batting average, at a stellar .276 as a team.  They are also ranked fifth in runs with 787, sixth in on-base percentage at .338, and ninth in slugging percentage with .419.

With the Rays and the Rangers having such great teams overall, and both having stellar pitching staffs, it’s going to be tough for Lee to win a World Series this year.  The Rays have proven to be clutch, and it will be hard to defeat them since they have home-field advantage.

Although Cliff Lee has proven himself as one of the greatest pitchers in baseball, and has proven he deserves a World Series title, that doesn’t mean he will get one. However, Texas will win the ALDS, 3-2.

Will Cliff Lee get his title this season, or will he still be searching for one in 2011?
