MLB Trade Rumors: New York Yankees Must Push for Shane Victorino

Philadelphia Phillies star Shane Victorino is exactly the talent that the New York Yankees need to compete for a World Series title.

According to CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman, the Yankees are looking to acquire an outfielder and have spoken to the Phillies about Victorino. Relieving the injury to stud left fielder Brett Gardner has to be a priority for these Yankees.

Hayden also mentions the Yankees have talked to the Arizona Diamondbacks about Jason Upton, though trading for Victorino would arguably be the better move.

The talks of shopping for outfield talent stem from the fact that Gardner is now on the 60-day DL after injuring his elbow while diving for a ball. Reporter David Waldstein of The New York Times said that he will likely be out the rest of the year.

Victorino is a proven talent in the outfield as well as at the plate. In spite of the fact that he has gone over a month without a homer, Victorino boasts a respectable eight home runs and 38 RBI.

What’s more? He has World Series experience, has posted at least 17 home runs and 61 RBI each of the last two seasons, and can make plays on the field.

He is notorious for being a proven threat in the hitting department and will add depth to an already strong-scoring team. The Yankees are third in MLB in runs, at 454, this season.

In the nine games Gardner played, his hitting was arguably the most impressive aspect of his game. He batted a whopping .321 and chipped in five runs and three RBI in 28 at-bats.

It is clear that his absence is a major loss at the position, and there is no doubt Victorino would be the answer to the team’s problem.

No Garnder in the lineup will not be a problem if the Yankees can snag this talented fielder from the Phillies.

MLB All-Star Voting Results: Ian Kinsler Starting over Cano Would Be Blasphemous

Ian Kinsler has played some impressive ball this season, but he should be nowhere close to edging Cano in the MLB All-Star vote this year.

In the latest report on the voting between the two players, the two were going at it for the starting second base position in the 2012 MLB All-Star game.

Not only would it be unjust to have the Texas Rangers‘ 2B top the Yankees second baseman in the votes for the American League starter spot, it would also be—to use ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith’s go-to word—blasphemous. Cano has the clear edge in the production between the two this season, has played much better as of late, and was the significantly better player last year as well.

When it comes to overall numbers, there is no contest between the two top-notch talents. Cano has posted the 10th-best average in the AL at .308 this season, while Kinsler bats just .277.

When comparing RBI and home runs, again there is no contest. Cano is up to 19 homers and 44 RBI while Kinsler has chipped in just nine home runs and 38 RBI for his Rangers ballclub. The 19 long balls for the Dominican sensation rank seventh in the AL.

Kinsler has had a fantastic season, and certainly a career-best run, but there is no questioning who the more talented, deserving player is to start for the All-Star team.

It is also interesting to note the burst Cano has put on display this past four weeks. In the month of June, Cano has racked up a whopping 10 home runs and 20 RBI and has batted .333.

Talk about impressive.

Kinsler has been solid, but nowhere near Cano’s June figures.
