Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Washington Nationals Live Blog: Reactions and Analysis

The Arizona Diamondbacks traveled to Washington, D.C., on June 25 to open a three-game series against the Nationals.

The Washington Nationals were desperately in need of some wins before the All-Star break. The Nationals were a team many picked to win the World Series this year, but they came into this series with a losing record.

The great grit experiment has been successful so far in Arizona, as the Diamondbacks are currently sitting atop the NL West. Led by Paul Goldschmidt, the D-Backs looked to pad their division lead at the expense of the Nationals.

The Nationals jumped on Trevor Cahill in the bottom of the third scoring five runs. The Diamondbacks had success at the plate but couldn’t string together enough hits at one time until the sixth inning.

Arizona finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth but it seemed to be a little too late.

The D-Backs refused to go away though as they scored runs in the last four innings of the game.

In the end the deficit was too much for the Diamondbacks to overcome as the Nationals came away with the 7-5 victory.

The D-Backs and Nationals will meet again tomorrow in our nation’s capitol. First pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.
