Mets’ Bartolo Colon Loses Helmet Once Again While Whiffing on Pitch vs. Orioles

New York Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon is in the middle of just his second full season in the National League, and he’s still not the best in the batter’s box.

In the bottom of the third inning on Tuesday, the 41-year-old was at the plate against Baltimore Orioles hurler Bud Norris. On an 0-2 count, Colon struck out swinging, losing his helmet in the process.

This wasn’t the first time Colon lost his helmet while taking a swing this season. In mid-April, his helmet went flying when he whacked an RBI single against the Atlanta Braves.

Colon might never get the hang of hitting after spending so many seasons in the American League, but the Mets won’t mind as long as he keeps shutting opposing batters down.

Mike Trout Robs Dodgers’ Alex Guerrero of Extra-Base Hit in Spring Training

It looks like Mike Trout is ready for Opening Day.

Along with putting up some very impressive numbers at the plate during spring training, the Los Angeles Angels star has also been showing off his skills in center field.

In top of the first inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday, Alex Guerrero hit a deep shot to center. Trout kept his eye on the ball and made a great play at the wall, robbing Guerrero of a potential extra-base hit.

But Trout wasn’t done there, hitting a monster home run later in the game.

The Angels will open up the regular season against the Seattle Mariners on April 6.

Pablo Sandoval Challenges Boston Photographer to Workout to Prove He’s in Shape

The Internet recently had some fun with Boston Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval after a photo surfaced of him looking bigger than usual at spring training.

However, Kung Fu Panda wants to prove to everyone that his weight won’t be a problem for the upcoming season.

According to Rob Bradford from WEEI.com, Sandoval challenged Steve Silva from Boston.com to join him for a workout. Silva, the man who tweeted out the picture of Sandoval, told the team’s PR department that he would accept the challenge.

Here’s the photo that Silva originally tweeted:

There have been plenty of jokes about Sandoval’s weight since the picture went viral, including some from his teammates:

Despite his weight, Sandoval is still a professional athlete, and Silva will get to learn quite a bit about the 28-year-old’s workout routine in the near future.

Astros’ Jose Altuve Makes Contact on Jump Swing vs. Rangers

Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve, 24, is having a fantastic season and leads Major League Baseball in batting average by a wide margin at .345 (Detroit’s Victor Martinez is second at .336). He’s also first in the majors in hits (221) and third in steals (54).

During a hit-and-run attempt in the top of the eighth inning with the Texas Rangers leading 4-3 and left fielder Robbie Grossman at first and no one out, Altuve swung at a very high 93 mph fastball from Texas’ Roman Mendez on the first pitch. Even after leaving his feet, the 5’5″ hitter was somehow able to make contact, fouling the offering back at the unlucky catcher, Robinson Chirinos, who understandably wasn’t able to react in time.

Despite Altuve‘s best efforts, the 69-88 Astros fell 4-3 to the 63-93 Rangers. He went 1-for-4 in Monday’s game with a double and an RBI. Altuve ended up lining out to center field in the at-bat seen above.

Cubs Bullpen Catcher Snags Foul Ball with 1 Hand While Holding Coffee

It’s been another long season for the Chicago Cubs, but as it draws to a close, it’s nice seeing some of the reserves making plays even when they’re not in the game.

During the top of the fourth inning of Monday night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, Cubs bullpen catcher Chad Noble snagged a foul ball heading straight toward him with one hand. The catch was good enough, but doing it while sitting and holding a cup of coffee made it even more impressive.
