On Wednesday afternoon, the Cleveland Indians were giving fans the opportunity of a lifetime to play a baseball game in a major league ballpark.

However, it took less than a minute for the team to crush those dreams.

The Indians sent out a tweet that invited 18 fans to come to Progressive Field and play a game on this pleasant November afternoon. Too-small baseball mitts were being dusted off all around Cleveland.

Unfortunately for the fans, it was just a joke:

Sorry, Cleveland fans. There isn’t another game at Progressive Field until April 4, 2016.

It takes a bold team to troll its own fanbase. Any team that does so has to be prepared to deal with the consequences. After revealing that this wasn’t a serious offer, the Indians had to deal with some disappointed people—and some trolls:

Given Cleveland’s attendance woes in recent seasons, there was, of course, a “You guys can’t even draw 18 fans to your games” comment. Don’t worry, the Indians were prepared for that.

Kudos to the Indians finding a way to have some fun in the offseason. With about five months to go, Cleveland fans had better be wary of the team’s Twitter account this winter.
