With apologies to Helen Gurley Brown who wrote the book, “Sex and the Single Girl” in 1962, (which was not only groundbreaking but also considered quite taboo and provocative, especially considering it was the Feel-Good ’60’s) my version is much tamer.
This is my first baseball season as a single Dad.
My son Noah turned two last Thanksgiving. While his Mother is a Yankees fan, (not a real one, just one that jumped on the bandwagon about seven years ago) Noah will definitely NOT be seen around town in a Derek Jeter jersey or any other Yankee paraphernalia.
He can be a Pittsburgh Pirates fan, (are there more than 35 or so left?) as long as he is not a Yankees fan.
We might even dress him up in a Andrew McCutchen No. 22 jersey, size 2T, once the weather gets a little warmer here on the East Coast.
While Noah did have an Aaron Rodgers jersey on both before and after the Super Bowl, no one will accuse us of being front runners in the baseball department.
As a depressed/disgusted New York Mets fan, there probably won’t be much to be excited about in Flushing this year.
Now before you say that I am setting my son up for a lifetime of disappointment and heartbreak, things can definitely change.
Thankfully the Omar Minaya era is over.
I’ve had enough of seeing them pick up bums like Livan Hernandez, Raul Cassanova and Nelson Figueroa.
Oh wait, didn’t they pick up guys like Chris Young, Chris Capuano and Scott Hairston? Well, at least some of the guys picked up off the scrapheap might have something left in the tank.
Just because you’re doing things on the cheap does not definitely mean it will be a disaster, right? I mean, where have you gone Tom Hausman and Junior Naboa?
Terry Collins seems like a nice man and with only a two year contract as his job security, I believe he will keep his team playing hard, regardless of the talent level.
I don’t think you’ll see Jose Reyes doing that goofy dance when the Mets are blowing out the Astros in May.
As a matter of fact, you might even see Jose in a different uniform by the middle of the summer as I really don’t think the Mets will re-sign him. Most likely they will try to get something in return for him, especially if they are out of it.
Although the Wilpons claim that GM Sandy Alderson does not have financial limitations put on him, I think that is just nonsense.
It is obvious the Madoff situation is hitting the Mets hard and they are not in a good place right now.
The Phillies have a ferocious rotation and the Braves and the Marlins are just better. If this team is below .500 by Memorial Weekend, Citi Field will be an easy place to get cheap seats on Stubhub.
Now, in reference to my title… Lisa Murphy from Bloomberg TV and Betty Nguyen from CBS The Early Show are two of the most beautiful/sexy women on TV. If anyone knows if they’re single, please let them know they have an admirer here in me!
