The New York Mets kept Thursday night’s extra-innings game against the host Philadelphia Phillies alive even longer when pitcher Carlos Torres and first baseman Daniel Murphy combined to turn an interesting play at first.
With two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, Phillies right fielder Jeff Francoeur sent a ground ball racing toward Torres on the mound.
The right-hander kicked it as if it were a Hacky Sack, redirecting it to Murphy, who tossed it up from the ground into Torres’ glove, barely beating Francoeur to the bag.
The putout ended the inning, leaving the game tied at 5-5.
