According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, The Giants have just signed free agent Ryan Theriot—previously with the St.Louis Cardinals—to a one-year deal worth $1.25 million.

This strengthens the infield and provides depth, protecting the team from the probability that Freddy Sanchez takes another trip or two to the DL next season, as well as giving Brandon Crawford the veteran mentor who’s been so sought after this offseason.

A career .282 hitter with good on-base and slugging percentages, Theriot is a solid pickup for the Giants overall.

He adds depth and improves the team, and I know this move is probably going a good ways to easing the concerns of fans who felt that the team didn’t do enough this offseason.

I, as well as other fans, have been hoping that the Giants would pick up Theriot, and it’s good to see our hopes fulfilled.
